Lose the ivory tie; a light tie is never worn except to very formal
"white tie" occasions which include a tail coat and white or grey
waistcoat.
Also lose any ****rt with ruffles or piping unless you are in a very
formal mariachi wedding band. Those guys wear rockin' clothes that the
rest of us can't get away with.
So we are stuck with the white pleated front starched like a board item.
Tux or "le smoking" as the French used to say is the "black tie" get-up
that one wears to the opera or out dancing or grand museum openings. If
you are young and adventurous you might try a red bow tie, but
generally it is black black black. Shoes must be plain and black unless
you spring for black gucci slip ons.
Thank god I gave my tux away about twenty years ago. I go to the SF
Opera in black pants, black cowboy boots black T****rt and Black Leather
Jacket; after all it is San Francisco and one must uphold
eccentricity!bg
