Hi,
I have what I believe are keloids (they look like it and fit the
profile of continual growth, itching, and intermittent needle-like
pain) as a result of two earlobe piercings and one cartilage piercing.
The lobe piercings were originally done four years ago and the
cartilage piercing was done three years ago. I had to have one of the
lobe piercings as well as the cartilage piercing re-done two years ago
after I had to remove the earrings for surgery and two of the holes
closed up. I started getting keloids not long after I got all of the
original piercings, and they got worse after I had the piercings re-
done two years ago.
I'd like to get rid of the keloids and I don't care anymore about
keeping the piercings. I've read previous posts on the subject in this
group and there seems to be no clear answer as to *how*. I had steroid
injections in the lobes a few years ago, but it didn't help much and
hurt like a *****. So:
- has anyone had surgery to remove a keloid and had a good outcome? I
see the FAQ says that scars return more than 50% of the time, which
doesn't look good. Anyone care to share their experience?
- another suggestion was hydrocortisone cream -- would this have any
effect after the keloids have been forming for at least a year? Again,
any personal experiences?
- I see that some people suggest dermal punching (at least on the
lobes) as a way of removing keloids, which I'd be willing to try in
theory, but wouldn't that cause worse keloids potentially? Once more,
has anyone tried it?
I've already seen lots of "maybe this would work, but probably not"
postings, so what I'm really hoping to get at here is specific direct
experience.
Thanks,
Tim
